Historic Observatory
Mathematical
Signal Processing
and Phase Retrieval
Göttingen, Sept 1-3, 2014
Historic Observatory Cubist
Over the last decade mathematicians from a broad range of disciplines have been drawn to the challenges of mathematical signal and image processing.  Today this topic represents a confluence of harmonic analysis, inverse problems, variational analysis, mathematical statistics, partial differential equations, optimization and approximation theory.  It provides unique opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and the development of new directions in mathematics spawned from the interaction of distinct communities. A major challenging in image reconstruction is the phase retrieval problem with important applications in transmission electron microscopy, coherent diffractive imaging and X-ray crystallography. The workshop is supported by the DFG-Collaborative Research Center 755 Nanoscale Photonic Imaging at the University of Göttingen.
The goal of the workshop is to bring together young researchers and a distinguished group of scientists whose lectures are intended to establish new and exciting directions in mathematical signal processing and phase retrieval.

Invited Speakers
The following speakers have already confirmed their participation.
Akram Aldroubi
Vanderbilt University, US

Martin Ehler
University of Vienna, Austria

Jalal Fadili
ENSICAEN Paris, France

Location
Reinhausen near Göttingen, Akademie Waldschlösschen
Akademie Waldschlösschen The renovated campus of artnouvaux buildings, surrounded by gardens and terrasses, is nestled in the hilly woodlands 13 km southeast of the university town Göttingen and offers an ideal atmosphere for concentrated work and learning.  It is also a perfect place to regenerate and relax.  The “Waldschlösschen” consists of the comfortable and ecologically carefully restored Art Nouvaux building, the Dependance “Waldhaus” built in 1991 to organic architecture standards, and the “Gartenhaus” finished in 2008. There are ten seminar and dayrooms for up to five parallel running seminar groups. The “Große Saal” serves as focus and “social centre”. The rooms are equipped with modern media and working materials. Three pianos and one grand piano offer the possibility to work intensively with music. Most seminar rooms are on the ground floor and have access to gardens and their own terrasses, so that in summer working outside is also possible.
